Migrating from Shared Hosting

The VPS has a different directory structure and control panel to our shared hosting service. Migration involves the following general steps:

  1. Preparing and setting up the Plesk control panel in the VPS
    1. Set up the DNS, domain settings
    2. Register your own DNS servers if you prefer. Please see the article on DNS Service for your VPS
  2. Adding your domains, databases, emails to the Plesk control panel in the VPS
  3. Transferring your files and databases
  4. Modifying any scripts that refer to absolute paths, and database server locations. As your database server will be running inside the same VPS, you will need to use 'localhost' as the server name.
  5. Testing your site
  6. Redelegating the domains to the VPS DNS servers
