How to troubleshoot a slow WordPress web site

Is your WordPress site slow? Follow these very simple troubleshooting steps:
  1. Install / switch to a generic theme such as "twentyfifteen" or "twentyfourteen".
  2. Take note of which plugins are active and which aren't. Write this down.
  3. Disable ALL your plugins.
(Don't worry, if you switched back to the original theme and turned on all the plugins that were previously active, your site will be back to its original look.)

This should bring your wordpress site to a somewhat "clean slate". Your site might look like a real mess, but if it works and it's FAST, then you know it's either the theme or one of the plugins that's the culprit. It is not the server!

You can then start turning things back on one by one to find out who the real culprit is.
